Stephen King Bonus Ep:“The Mist” Recap
Episode 9 “The Waking Dream”
Plus: Our “Top 5 Most Wanted Stephen King Reboots”
It’s time to recap episode 9 of Stephen King’s The Mist TV series and in this special bonus ep of the Book Vs. Movie podcast Margo D. and Deana of the Twisted Philly podcast offer their weekly recap of the Spike TV production plus, they choose their own “Top 5 Most Wanted Stephen King Reboots.”
The podcast clip is at the bottom of this post but here are the basics of this week’s show:
The Car:
Bryan/Jonah (Ozekie Morro) Mia (Danica Curcic) and Adrian (Russell Posner) are in the car and Adrian tells the story about how he became a psycho (all kinds of bullies and dad stuff here.)
Running around Brigdon, Maine:
Kevin (Morgan Spector) is not dead and Vic (Erik Knudsen) is redeeming himself by saving him. (I like Vic in this episode!) They decide to go from house to house to gather supplies as they head out to the mall. At one such house they find dead Arrowhead soldiers.
They are chased by a guy with a gun and Vic knocks him out. Well not really, the guy pulls a grenade and blows himself up. Out of the ashes Kevin is confronted with all kinds of weirdness as The Mist comes into the room. All of the people he has killed are showing up and he is eventually confronted with his own image carrying a bat!
Kevin then kills...Kevin #2.
He and Vic head out in an army vehicle to the mall.
The Mall:
Eve (Alyssa Sutherland) is holding Jay (Luke Cosgrove) hostage and he asks why bother if isn’t ultimately going to let him live. They have a back and forth about the rape and she mentions his father being a total creep.
Gus (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) blames Alex (Gus Birney) for killing Shelly knowing full well he is lying. The mall peeps turn into an angry mob and want to head out to find Alex and kill her.--by hanging. Because she is “evil.” But Gus thinks they should just send her out into The Mist instead (forgetting that she is immune to it.)
The gang from the car are now at the mall with no idea what is happening there. Adrian tells Alex and Eve that Kevin is dead and is putting on a real show about it. Alex really becomes upset about this news and Eve is trying to stay strong. Adrian claims his father killed Kevin.
The mall villagers are taking their tiki torches (so to speak) to look for Alex.
Eve, Alex, Jay and Adrian get locked up together. Adrian looks mighty pissed at how happy she is to see Jay.
Bryan/Jonah and Mia are staying in the camping store and she gives her back story about her awful boyfriend that she left. Mia wants to run away with him after the whole Mist thing gets resolved. However, we need to learn his backstory first.
Bryan/Jonah is looking for supplies and someone recognizes him. His name is Wes (Greg Hovanssian) and they get into a skirmish. Wes ties him up and then salutes him so basically Bryan/Jonah is in charge--we are to assume. But who knows?
The Sewer:
Nathalie (Frances Conroy) and Connor the cop (Darren Pettie) are having a fun time heading to the mall whilst underground. There is a couple (Trevor and Ursula) with them and you know they won’t make it. (Easter egg about the rats and Stephen King’s Graveyard Shift short stories.)
Trevor breaks his leg and Nathalie is all “bye Felicia!” and says they need to abandon him. Ursula attempts to save her husband’s life and Connor kills her. Then rats show up and eat the couple.
Nathalie and Connor have a weird Mother Nature moment involving caresses and a rat. They head to the mall.
And that is it for episode 9!

Book Vs Movie
“I Robot”
Isaac Asimov Classic Short Stories Vs Will Smith Blockbuster
For this episode of the Book Vs. Movie podcast the Margos go back to the world of science fiction with this ep talking about the extraordinary life of Isaac Asimov and his most famous work (out of hundreds of books, essays, letters, etc.) I Robot. Specifically we compare the introduction of the book and the short story Little Lost Robot with the Will Smith 2004 film.
The research we did for this show was so much fun as Asimov is simple one of the most fascinating people from the 20th century. Big shout outs to Amazon for having his interviews available for sale with the Bill Moyers show and the series “Prophets of Science Fiction.”
So how does the movie compare to the source material? We discuss and decide in this ep (the hyperlink is at the end of the post) and choose our preferred at the conclusion of our show.
In this episode we discuss:
Clips used:
Bill Moyers “A World of Ideas Writers” with Isaac Asimov (1990)
I Robot Trailer
I Robot Scene with Will Smith
Outro Music:
“Gettin’ Jiggy With It” by Will Smith

Stephen King Bonus Ep:“The Mist” Recap
Episode 8 “The Law of Nature”
Plus: Our “Top 5 Stephen King Casting Choices”
We are finally seeing the end of Stephen King’s The Mist TV series and in this special bonus ep of the Book Vs. Movie podcast Margo D. and Deana of the Twisted Philly podcast offer their weekly recap of the Spike TV production plus, they choose their own “Top 5 Casting Choices in a Stephen King Production.”
The podcast clip is at the bottom of this post but here are the basics of this week’s show:
Adrian’s House:
Kevin (Morgan Spector), Bryan/Jonah (Ozekie Morro) Mia (Danica Curcic) and Adrian (Russell Posner) are in the car and running out of gas. As luck would have it they are on Adrian’s block. He wants to check on his family and Mia & Bryan/Jonah want to look for gas.
Kevin wants to hide out in the car parked in the garage as this all seems like a bad idea to him.
Mia and Bryan/Joah have a hot encounter in the backseat of a car. (Kind of like Jack & Rose from Titanic except they are hiding out from The Mist and not an enraged Billy Zane.)
Adrian sees his awful father who casually tells his son that his mother is lying dead on the couch. Then he admits to his father that he was the one who raped Alex.
He shoots his father and then gets kin a tussle with Kevin who found the date rape drugs at the house. Adrian knocks him out and then heads to the car which now includes excommunicated from-the-mall Vic (Erik Knudsen) who somehow has escaped The Mist all of this time.
Adrian tells them Kevin is dead but IS HE????
The Mall:
Alex (Gus Birney) and Jay (Luke Cosgrove) are enjoying each other’s company which is causing whispers at the mall and making Alex’s mom Eve (Alyssa Sutherland) really unhappy. In fact, with a nod to Wendy putting Jack into the pantry in The Shining, Eve locks Jay up in a closet. (Because, that’s a sustainable plan!)
Meanwhile, Gus (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) is having a very hard time keeping law & order at the Mall. Shelley (Alexandra Ordorlis) finds out about his hidden stash of food. He "brains" her and then chokes her to death!
Being a class act, he blames this on Alex.
The Church:
Nathalie (Frances Conroy) and Connor the cop (Darren Pettie) have a deep discussion about his parenting abilities. He confesses that he believes his son is capable of raping Alex and blames his lack of being a good role model as the main issue.
Natalie thinks The Mist maybe just what the town needed to clear out all of the bad people and sets off to take everyone to the mall and check out what is happening there.
What will their reception be like at the mall? We most likely will find out in episode 9!
Personally I am just looking forward to what Deana picks for the weekly Stephen King Top 5.

Stephen King Bonus Ep:“The Mist” Recap
Episode 7 “Over the River and Through the Woods”
Plus: The “Top 5 Stephen King Death Scenes”
It’s episode 7 of Stephen King’s The Mist TV series and in this special bonus ep of the Book Vs. Movie podcast Margo D. and Deana of the Twisted Philly podcast offer their weekly recap of the Spike TV production plus, they choose their own “Top 5 Stephen King Death Scenes.”
This episode is titled “Over the River and Through the Woods” and it is seems everyone is about to hit their mental/emotional limit.
The podcast clip is at the bottom of this post but here are the basics of this week’s show:
The Hospital:
Kevin (Morgan Spector), Bryan (Ozekie Morro) and Adrian (Russell Posner) are now getting refuge in the psych ward which is surprisingly safe. Well, except for a certain resident there named Nash (Philip Ettinger)
Mia decides to tell Bryan that his real name is Jonah Dixon and that she is going on a quick detox. This requires him to strap her to a bed and witness her going through major withdrawals. She makes it through along with his help and they rejoin the group.
Adrian shares a room with Tyler (Christopher Gray) who has a Tom Hardy mouth. Tyler shares an awful story about sexually assaulting a kid from school then snuggles next to Adrian in his bed.
Adrian is then kidnapped by Nash who explains that because he can “see” things others cannot--Adrian is evil deep down and must be destroyed. Kevin convinces Nash to take him instead and then promptly beats the psych patient to death.
Kevin, Bryan/Jonah, Mia and Adrian leave the hospital. Tyler wants to stay behind knowing that he will most likely die there. (Major gay panic with this kid!)
The Mall:
Lots of tension at the mall over the lack of food available. (Why is that? Don’t they have a food court there?)
Alex (Gus Birney) now believes that there is no way that Jay (Luke Cosgrove) raped her and wants him to stay at their section of the mall. Eve (Alyssa Sutherland) is not happy about this but Alex is being bratty and taking advantage of the situation.
Eve gets a baby monitor and plants it at the other end of the mall so they can keep tabs on the bigger group.
We find out that Gus (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) is dealing with people who are becoming increasingly paranoid and delusional. Starting with the mall cop (Romaine Waite) getting ‘hangry” and wanting to explore for more food and then Shelley (Alexandra Ordorlis) trying to convince everyone that Alex is the cause of all of their problems and brought The Mist into the town.
The Church:
Nathalie (Frances Conroy) and Father Romanov (Dan Butler) are about to have an ecclesiastical showdown. It begins with Connor the cop (Darren Pettie) accusing Romanov of being a pedophile and then beating him about the face. Nathalie is sitting serenely as this is all happening.
Romanov offers a challenge to Nathalie. They both go out into The Mist and see who makes it back. Nathalie not only agrees to this preposterous idea but strips naked and marches right out there.
And guess what? We get the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse! Seriously, they shoot an arrow through Romanov and then drag him away. (I may have giggled during this silly sequence.)
So Natalie is now our Christ-like figure. Where the hell is this show going? Please someone, tell me!

Stephen King Bonus Ep:“The Mist” Recap
Episode 6 “The Devil You Know”
Plus: Our “Top 5 Stephen King Guilty Pleasures”
Here we are at episode six of Stephen King’s The Mist TV series and in this special bonus ep of the Book Vs. Movie podcast Margo D. and Deana of the Twisted Philly podcast offer their weekly recap of the Spike TV production plus, we pick our “Top 5 Stephen King Guilty Pleasures.”
This episode is titled “The Devil You Know” and it is equal parts action-packed and terribly confusing.
Here are the basics of this episode:
The Hospital: Kevin (Morgan Spector), Bryan (Ozekie Morro) and Adrian (Russell Posner) are all still at the hospital and Kevin feels the need to leave. (Killing his brother has made him anxious.)
However, he learns from Adrian that Mia (Danica Curcic) stole their car and they are stuck. Adrian confronts a nurse and finds out that people are disappearing from the hospital but that shouldn't worry at all about that. He also tries to talk to his crush/hookup to say goodbye but gets the cold shoulder.
Kevin discovers Dr.. Bailey is kidnapping people, filling them up with drugs and sending them out into The Mist. He has lost his mind and Kevin is his next victim. He is rescued by Bryan and Adrian.
Bryan meanwhile kills his “twin” and is anxious to leave. Mia comes back for her journey (more on that later) and The Mist is coming into the hospital and the gang is trapped.
The Mall:
Alex (Gus Birney) and her mother Eve (Alyssa Sutherland) decide to go shopping as a distraction. There is a really long scene about a jacket and then Alex says she thinks she should go out into The MIst to find her dad because The Mist does not have any interest in her so she would be safe. Eve says “hello no” so Alex decides to make a snaky visit to the shop “Hiker’s World” to get supplies.
Whilst there she gets locked in a break room and then gasoline is flooding in, then the place goes up in flames. Jay the Rapist (Luke Cosgrove) saves her and then gets mouthy with Eve when she admonishes him. Turns out Lila set the fire in retaliation for her daughter dying in Alex’s care.
Also, Eve creates phony fliers to give hope to everyone at the Mall. Gus (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) thinks this is nuts.
Church:
Nathalie (Frances Conroy) and the cop (Connor Heisel) continue their friendship. She makes a strange case for how everyone loves a disaster which made zero sense to Margo D.
Link (Dylan Authors) is the teen boy version of Mrs. Carmody and has turned into a vengeful zealot. He attempts to lock Nathalie in the attic. She gets wise to this and instead breaks open a window which allows The MIst to come in and locking the boy in--basically killing him.
House:
Mia ia back at the house where she first was looking for money and finds her dead mother upstairs in a bedroom. The mother tells her she loves her and that is she wants to kill herself then to go for it. Mia gets out and heads back to the hospital.

Stephen King Bonus Ep:“The Mist” Recap
Episode 5 “The Waiting Room”
Plus: Our “Top 5 Scariest Stephen King Stories”
It’s episode 5 of the Stephen King’s The Mist TV series and in this special bonus ep of the Book Vs. Movie podcast Margo D. and Deana of the Twisted Philly podcast offer their weekly recap of the Spike TV production.
This episode is titled “The Waiting Room” as we now have a new location--the hospital. (Thankfully they ditch the church and mall in this episode!).
It’s one of the gorier chapters so far and had some genuine scares but unfortunately, they still have some pretty lame dialogue.
Here are the basics of this episode:
The Hospital: Kevin (Morgan Spector), Mia (Danica Curcic), Bryan (Ozekie Morro) and Adrian (Russell Posner) arrive at the hospital just in time for Bryan to have emergency surgery for his bullet wound. The hospital has only 2-days worth of power and food left and people are becoming panicked.
Kevin sees his creepy brother Mike (Peter Murnik) who was attacked in The Mist and has some metal stuck in his abdomen. The doctors can’t operate on him so Kevin offers to do it even though his brother is being SUCH A TOOL. They have a contentious relationship due to the ever-sexy Eve (Alyssa Sutherland.)
(More on that later.)
Mia looks for Bryan (who is in room 237) and another gentleman is in his bed. We are reminded that our Bryan has amnesia and assumed who he was based on the ID he had on him. Mia freaks out and leaves the hospital with their truck.
Adrian meets up with the jock from high school who has hassled him in the past and who drops the F word like a maniac. (Not the F bomb which is bleeped throughout the show.) Adrian kisses him, the jock beats the snot out of him and then they make out and have sex. Because, of course.
Mike operates on his brother and The Mist shows up bringing lots of blood and leeches. Kevin reluctantly kills his brother and runs away.
The Past:
Eve and Kevin have a very fraught relationship. When they move into their house he surprises her by setting up Alex’s bedroom as a little girl’s paradise. Eve tells him she has never felt this happy and yet less like herself. (Mixed messages, Eve?)
She has an awkward encounter with his brother Mike (did THEY have sex in the past?) and later has afternoon sex with Kevin which apparently never happens. This is when we learn she had a reputation in high school and Alex is not Kevin’s daughter. (Wut?)

Stephen King Bonus Ep:“The Mist” Recap
Episode 4 “Pequod”
Plus. Top 5 "Stephen King Heroes"
Welcome to episode 4 of the Stephen King’s The Mist TV series and in this special bonus ep of the Book Vs. Movie podcast Margo D. and Deana of the Twisted Philly podcast offer their weekly recap of the Spike TV production.
Now we are at episode 4 titled “Pequod” which is the name of the whaling ship in Herman Melville’s Moby Dick and it was named for the Pequot tribe that was based in New England.
This episode has a bit of everything-- paranoia, mist beasts, foul language, dead kids and a little bit of “end of time/wrath of God”-type stuff. The action takes place in three places: A gas station, the mall and the church and people are at various levels of stressed out and frightened.
In essence for each location the following is happening:
The Gas Station: Kevin (Morgan Spector), Mia (Danica Curcic), Bryan (Ozekie Morro) and Adrian (Russell Posner) can’t seem to get their car moving so they meet up at a gas station. There they find Clay (Teagle F. Bougere) who is armed and knows Kevin because Eve is his son;s teacher. Clay wants to stay and he gives his survivalist care to the gang. (He thinks he will reunite with his son at the station. Poor Clay…)
The Mall:
Eve (Alyssa Sutherland) confesses she is glad Kevin isn’t there because she blames him for Alex’s (Gus Birney) rape. Alex takes a young child to the bookstore to hang out and forget their troubles for a bit. The game show bros think it would be a fine idea to get a harpoon and bring the dead bodies from the parking lot. The mist shows up and causes one death and one bro getting kicked out for good. Also, the mist has no interest in Alex (!)
Church:
Father Romanov (Dan Butler) thinks it is the end of times and wants his new parishioners to join him in fighting the mist with faith and prayer. Natalie (Frances Conroy) thinks a spider she caught in a jar is God. Father Romanov thinks that is bunk and squashes it.

Stephen King Bonus Ep:“The Mist” Recap
Episode 3 “Show and Tell”
It’s episode three of the Stephen King’s The Mist TV series and in this special bonus ep of the Book Vs. Movie podcast Margo D. and Deana of the Twisted Philly podcast do their weekly recap of the Spike TV production. Is the show getting better each episode?
To be honest, we have been struggling to really enjoy this series. As two die-hard King fans we have been a little disappointed in this particular effort (getting same shades of Under the Dome versus the strange awesomeness of 1991’s Golden Years miniseries.) Is it the writing? Direction? Special effects?
In this podcast we talk about what happened in the “Show and Tell” episode and offer our thoughts.
